The idea of WWE pulling off the Women’s Tag Team Championship isn’t new, as fans have been lukewarm about it since the title’s inception.
Of course, if they had just reactivated the old women’s championship things would have turned out better, or if they had bothered to try and create the women’s division.
Over the past two years, WWE has systematically dismantled the many female tag teams they had to create singles matches.
It’s the same thing they’ve done in the men’s division for years, and it’s a big reason why a few teams have near or have double-digit titles compared to the bigger teams of yesteryear. two or three.
It’s not the wrestlers’ fault but the system that puts them in this position and it looks like WWE had better do away with the Women’s Tag Team Championship.
By freeing Ruby Riott and Lana, WWE dismantled two other teams, The Riott Squad and The Glow.
And with Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax on the verge of falling out over Reginald, it looks like we’re down to a tag team division made up of Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke, as well as Tamina and Natalya.
This is by no means a good look, but especially when you look at the other teams that have been dissolved for this or that reason.
The roster includes The IIconics (Peyton Royce, Billie Kay), the Kabuki Warriors (Asuka, Kairi Saine), Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross, The Glow (Lana, Naomi), The Riott Squad (Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan), Sasha Banks and Bayley, and Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax.
Sure, a few of them might come together, but we don’t think that will happen the way things seem to be.
But maybe getting rid of the titles from the tags isn’t the solution.
Unify the championships under one brand
We mentioned this before and it still seems like the best option.
This would also allow them to unify the two women’s championships under one banner. If they don’t want to create a separate brand, the championships can still be unified and the champions would float.
It would be like when WWE unified the WWF and WCW heavyweight world championships and the champion was floating between brands.
We would also like to see the unified men’s championships as well.
Of course, this would reduce the sales of belt merchandise, but it would ensure that the most popular and deserving mintage would be the champion of one or the other brand and it could lead to increased sales of other merchandise for balance it.
There are just too many championships in WWE and there is no longer prestige from a fan’s point of view, and that presents an interesting problem.
What do you think? Should the women’s team championship be withdrawn or should women’s titles in general be unified and under their own brand? Let us know in the comments below.
