Licensed amateur radio operators in Ohio will participate in the annual group field day June 26-27.

Field Day combines public service, emergency preparedness, community outreach and technical skills into one event.

Amateur radio operators or “Hams” throughout North America have set up field stations to practice operating under emergency conditions using alternative power sources such as batteries or generators . During local or national emergencies, amateur radio operators often provide critical temporary communications services to first responders and free emergency communications to the public.

Ohio has over 28,000 licensed amateur radio operators.

Ohio radio amateurs maintain relationships with nearly every emergency management agency in the county, as well as the Red Cross, local hospitals, and the Salvation Army. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted declared June 26 and 27 Amateur Radio Appreciation Days in the State of Ohio.

Field Day organizers encourage impromptu site visits during the two-day event. Visit www.arrl.org/field-day-locator for more information on Field Day locations across Ohio.
